Recruitment Opt Out

Recruiter Opt-Out Notification
Helena Public Schools
2012-2013 School Year

Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, the school district is required to provide directory information (names, addresses, and home phone numbers) of high school students to both military recruiters and institutions of higher education when requested.  However, the law also affords you the right to request the names, addresses and telephone listings not be released without prior written consent.

If you do not want the directory information (name, address, and telephone number) released to military recruiters and / or institutions of higher education, you must submit and "Opt Out” request.  You may use the attached form or send a letter to the high school or school district.  Once the school district receives your “Opt Out” request, it will remain in effect for the balance of the high school career unless you request a change.  If you have previously submitted an “Opt Out” request, it is still in effect.

Please note that this “Opt Out” request will apply only to the release of directory information (name, address, and telephone number) to military recruiters and/or institutions of higher education.  If you do not want directory information released in other settings (e.g., school publications, extra/co-curricular activities, etc.), you need to submit a separate request to the Principal’s Office.

Requests should be sent directly to either Randy Carlson, Capital High School
Principal, Greg Upham, Helena High School Principal, Don Wood-Foucar,
PAL Principal or Bruce Messinger, Superintendent of Schools.
