GYSD 2K9

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is organized by Youth Service America with the Global Youth Action Network as its key partner and a consortium of international organizations and over 125 national partners with thousands of local organizations. GYSD is an annual global event that highlights and celebrates the ongoing contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service and service-learning.

This year, Helena will celebrate GYSD on Saturday April 25th. Tentative schedule is as follows:

10:30am: Registration

11am: Kickoff at Women's Park (Corner of Neill and Fuller)

12pm-3pm: Service! Project are listed and described below

3pm-4pm: Closing Celebration- music, food, and fun!

Service Project Sites

March of Dimes Walk
   
Volunteers of all ages are needed to help with registration/set-up from 9-10am, participate in teams for the walk- or mark the course, provide water to walkers, etc. - from 10-11:30am, and then help with the celebration and take down from 11:30am-12:30pm.The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.

Restoring Memorial Park Playground Equipment

Spring is the time of year that wood structures need to be restored so that they last for years to come. We need at least 40 volunteers of all ages to help restore the playground at Memorial Park.

Trash for Trees

Each year Growing Friends and the S.A.V.E. Foundation partner to provide the community with a one stop shop for recycling newspaper, glass, aluminum, plastic, and other recyclable items. We can use at least 15 volunteers of all ages for this event!

Good Samaritan

The Good Samaritan Thrift Store provides gently used clothing, furniture, and other items at affordable prices for low-income folks in Helena. We can use at least 10 volunteers of all ages to help sort through clothing, rack items, and help with other chores around the store.

Lewis & Clark Humane Society- CANCELLED

Due to a ringworm outbreak we will not be placing volunteers at the shelter for this event. If you are interested in volunteering with them at future time, call Gina at 442.1660.
