2010 SWISH Basketball Tournament
During the weekend of March 20-21, the Helena Chamber will be hosting its annual SWISH Youth Basketball Tournament at local gyms throughout the area. The Helena SWISH is the longest running and most successful youth basketball tournament in the state, with over 80 teams participating each year.
Volunteers are needed in each gym location to help ensure that games are run in a timely fashion, to help with concessions and t-shirt sales, and to assist with teams, coaches, players, and families. Please call Mike Mergenthaler at 447-19741 to learn more about all the volunteer opportunities!
Spay/Neuter Clinic with The Helena Area Friends of Pets
The Helena Area Friends of Pets is having a spay/neuter clinic event Saturday and Sunday, March 27 & 28 at the entry hall of the Fairgrounds building. They could use help with set-up and take-down and anyone who likes dogs and cats could sit with them during recovery from surgery as well. Set-up would take place Friday, March 26th from about 4:00-7:00 p.m. and take-down would be sometime Sunday evening. If someone was interested in helping with dog or cat recovery, they could come between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Contact Jo Genzlinger 439-0478 for more info!

Lessons and Loaves After School Program -3ish to 6ish on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program provides snacks and dinner for children and volunteers and does all kinds of activities: board games, cooking, field trips and more! This program needs one, two or three volunteers at a time. You can volunteer once or on a regular basis. The program takes place at First Presbyterian Church and it is their outreach to the community, not a religious program. Contact Laura Stack, 459-0897
Craig Marr (495-3270 / cmarr@mt.gov)- of Fish Wildlife and Parks oversees projects atSpring Meadow, Black Sandy and Elkhorn State Parks and a number of Fishing Access Sites in the Helena Area.
The SACC afterschool program can use help any day after school from 3-6pm (if you get out of school later than 3, you can still volunteer!) and on days that students are not in school (e.g., MLK Jr. Day.) SACC is located at many different schools: Broadwater, Central, Four Georgians, Hawthorne, Jefferson, Kessler, Rossiter and Smith. Project WET Workshop

Educate. Empower. Act. The mission of Project WET is to reach children, parents, educators, and communities of the world with water education. We invite you to join us in educating children about the most precious resource on the planet — water. Come join us and learn how to merge service learning, history, math, science, art, English and water with state education standards!
Benefits of attendance: 1) Training includes: full instruction, the Project WET Curriculum Guide and Activity book, a student copy pages CD, a copy of the 2009 Project WET Guide Correlations to Montana Content Standards, a renewal unit certificate, and follow up support from Montana Watercourse.
2) Make new contacts and network with experienced teachers and professionals
3) Teachers can earn 6 renewal units in one day!
4) Enrollment is limited to 15, and costs $35.00 per teacher. Traveling teachers will have their mileage subsidized as follows: Helena area: $8.00 registration fee (98 miles)
New this year: - Bring a copy of a publication that mentions Project WET or Montana Watercourse and be entered to win a Project WET publication of your choice! The drawing and award presentation will take place during the workshop.
- Become a mentor or apprentice and earn rewards for your school that include: books, festival/tour support, expert speakers, free water monitoring training (level 1 or 2 training), restoration project support!
