Helena Schools' Employability Program

The Helena Schools’ Employability Program is designed to integrate students with special needs into the community while helping them attain skills that will prepare them for adult life. We are looking for community sites that will give our students experience with maintenance in various positions, grounds for landscaping and upkeep, cafeteria positions, mail positions, library assistants, computer lab assistants, mail delivery, vehicle cleaning, making and delivering copies, greeting customers, stocking shelves, etc.

Students will come to your place of work with a job coach who will be in place for support and training as long as needed until the student is able to work efficiently and independently. Students will be working for school credit and work experience only. These are volunteer positions and will be provided at no cost to the employer.

Business and Accounting

This department is seeking volunteers who are interested in sharing their knowledge in finance, accounting, and management, possible internships and job shadowing with students. Teachers are willing to adjust time frames to accommodate schedule.

Special Needs Classroom

Volunteers are needed to assist in a special needs classroom with students who have emotional disabilities. The volunteer would assist with classroom outings and individual academic assistance.

Tutoring

Volunteers are needed to assist students after school with specific academic needs. If you have an area of expertise and would like to tutor a student, this is the spot for you. Specific needs are in Math, Science, English, and History.

FCCLA- Family Career & Cultural Leaders of America (FHA)

FCCLA has a need for chaperones for various activities and field trips.

Sewing Volunteers

Help out in the classroom with sewing and construction of units. Administering tests orally and reading to students is also a need in this class.

Spanish Class Volunteers

Volunteers do not need to speak Spanish. We welcome anyone who has traveled to a Spanish speaking country and would be willing to give a travelogue or share observations/experiences. If you are someone who can dance and teach salsa, meringue, mambo, cha cha cha, and tango, that would be a great enrichment for our classes. People who can address border and immigration issues or other social issues that deal with Hispanic societies abroad and here in the US are also needed. If you have an interest in Hispanic music and lead sing-alongs and karaoke in Spanish, this is the volunteer experience for you. We also need anyone who can demonstrate how to make Hispanic arts and craft items or cook typical dishes.
