New Educator Information

 

For Educators New to the Helena Public Schools in 2009-2010

New Educator Professional Development Requirements
Background: Total Contract Days: 189

Every new educator with the Helena Public Schools has a 189 day contract. The 189 days are allocated as follows:

• 180 Pupil Instruction (PI) days with students – School is in session.
• 9 Pupil Instruction Related (PIR) days – School is not in session.
  • 2 days are Parent / Student / Teacher Conference Days for K-8 or records days for 9-12
  • 2 days occur before students arrive (August 24-25m 2009)
  • 5 days are professional development days (described below)

5 Professional Development Days outlined below for new educators:

One professional development day = 6 hours

1 Day: Mentoring Kick-off Orientation

Dates to be Determined .

Learning Academy Note: You must attend a different Learning Academy for each year you have an academy requirement.

.50 Day: Writing a Career Development Plan (There will be two sessions for a total of 3 hours or half a day)

For Educators with 2 through 5 Years with the Helena Public Schools for 2009-2010

Educators with 2 through 5 years professional development requirement.
Background: Total Contract Days: 189

Every educator with two to five years with the Helena Public Schools has a 189 day contract. The 189 days are allocated as follows:

• 180 Pupil Instruction (PI) days with students – School is in session.
• 9 Pupil Instruction Related (PIR) days – School is not in session.
  • 2 days are Parent / Student / Teacher Conference Days for K-8 or records days for 9-12
  • 2 days occur before students arrive (August 27 - 28, 2007)
  • 5 days are professional development days (described below)

5 Professional Development Days outlined below for educators with two to five years:

One professional development day = 6 hours

Dates to be Determined for all 2009-2010 Academies.

Learning Academy Note: You must attend a different Learning Academy for each year you have an academy requirement.
